Cebu Pacific taps ACEN for renewable energy
Philippine carrier’s maintenance, catering facilities will transition to 100% renewables

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' largest airline carrier in terms of passenger volume, has tapped another Philippine firm AC Energy ( ACEN ) to power two of its facilities with renewable energy through its retail electricity supply arm, ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions ( AC RES ).

Under the deal, AC RES will help Cebu Pacific transition two of the airline’s key facilities – the APlus and AirJuan buildings – to 100% renewable energy, bringing the low-cost airline closer to its decarbonization goals. The two facilities, located in Pasay City south of Manila, house the airlines’ maintenance and catering operations.

The buildings’ shift to renewable energy, the carrier says, is proof of its strong commitment to its decarbonization strategy, which also includes transitioning to a modern and fuel-efficient all-NEO fleet, implementing fuel-efficient practices, optimizing flight routes and electrifying its ground support equipment.

“This shift to clean energy is an important component of further reducing our emissions, in this case, those generated from the use of electricity in our buildings and facilities,” says Felix Lopez, the airline's chief human resources officer.

Partnering with AC RES, Lopez states, will also allow the airline to access the benefits of the Green Energy Option Programme of the Philippine Department of Energy, which, the airline says, will translate to cost savings for it, while also supporting the goal of boosting the country’s renewable energy supply.

Sheila Mina, ACEN’s vice-president and head of account management, adds: “By providing renewable energy solutions, we are enabling Cebu Pacific to reduce its carbon emissions and operate more efficiently. This partnership aligns with our mission of making renewable energy accessible for businesses across the Philippines.”
